2008 SUMMER BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
Bible Studies are such an important part of our Church activities. God’s Word can answer some of life’s toughest questions. It can show us what God is really like and what He expects of us. If we really want to live in a manner that is pleasing to Him then we must know what His Word says and then apply what we learn to our lives.
GOSPEL OF JOHN: Roger Wood will be leading a study this fall on “The Gospel of John”. This study is a part of the Disciple Bible Study Program and is 8 weeks long. The class will meet in room #116 in the Colvert Ministry Center at 6:30pm on Monday nights beginning September 29th and ending November 24th with no lesson on October 6th.
HAVING A MARY HEART IN A MARTHA WORLD by Joanna Weaver: Like Mary, do you long to sit at the Lord’s feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won’t leave you alone? Like Martha, do you love Jesus and really want to serve Him...yet you struggle with weariness, resentment and feelings of inadequacy? This class is for you! With candor, humor and passion Joanna Weaver invites us to cultivate a “Mary heart” that delights in time with God and assigns him top priority. Yet she doesn’t discard the service-oriented Martha. Instead, she wisely and practically models how to balance the Mary and Martha qualities in us all. This class will meet in room #116 in the Colvert Ministry Center at 12:30pm on Thursdays beginning October 2nd and ending November 13th. Led by Merla Mourer. Please sign-up for this class or leave a message for Merla at 226-5612 by 9/18 so we will know how many books to order.
HAVING A MARY SPIRIT by Joanna Weaver: This book directs your gaze past your own shortcomings to the God who stands ready, willing and able to make a new woman out of you. Equipping you with Biblical insights and practical tools to partner with Christ. Drawing on the stories of the Biblical Marys (Mary, mother of Jesus; Mary, sister of Martha and Mary Magdalene) and others whose experience with God transformed their lives, the author shows how you can find hope, healing, wholeness and joy. This study will be individual reflection and group discussion led by Melinda Laird. The class will meet on Monday nights at 6:30pm in room #115B in the Colvert Ministry Center beginning September 8th and ending November 10th.
MAXIMIZING YOUR MARRIAGE by Dr. Daryl G. Donovan: God intends for marriage to be one of the most satisfying relationships you will ever experience. Like your relationship with Christ, your relationship with your spouse should be a source of joy, peace, life and love. But the marriages of nearly half of the couples who go to the altar end in divorce - and many of those who remain together find themselves in frustrating relationships full of pain and conflict. Maximizing Your Marriage is an interactive mentoring course for couples that helps you experience and enjoy all God wants for you. The weekly sessions explore God’s design for a fulfilling marriage and provide you with plenty of practical tools based on solid biblical principles. Classes begin Monday, September 8th at 6:30pm in room #126 in the Colvert Ministry Center. Led by Darrell and Bonnie Cates.
PRECEPT BIBLE STUDY-COLOSSIANS: We will be studying the book of Colossians in our Fall Bible Study Class. Have you ever felt incomplete? Have you feared being caught up in deception…being persuaded by arguments of people who appeared to be wiser, more religious than you? Do you long to know Jesus more? Do you desire to know how to be pleasing to God? How to live in a manner worthy of the Lord? How to stand assured in the will of God? Colossians is a book for today that has the answers to these questions and more. We will be meeting on Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 11:00am in Room #116 in the Colvert Ministry Center beginning September 4th through December 4th. Our DVD's will be by Wayne Barber. The class will be led by Janie Courtney.
WISING UP BY BETH MOORE: There will be a nine week video study of the book of Proverbs imparting God’s wisdom to a variety of topics, including money, work, words, parenting, marriage and friendships. There is no book or homework to this Bible study, just 90 minutes of Beth every week! So “wise up” and join us! The classes will be Monday evenings in room #115A from 6:30pm to 8:30pm beginning September 8th through November 3rd. The class will be facilitated by Debbi Rison and Christy Mordy.
