Volunteers In Mission Opportunities
First United Methodist Church has a strong commitment to hands-on mission. Volunteers of all ages with construction skills, health-care skills, language skills, general skills, or no skills at all are needed for short-term mission projects.
Cross Point Camp near Kingston, Oklahoma on beautiful Lake Texoma is the site of our district United Methodist camp. First Church men, women, and youth will participate in a series of Cross Point workdays on
the fourth Saturdays of the spring and fall months to do a variety of clean-up, fix-up tasks.
First United Methodist Church plans a spring construction mission to Rio Bravo, Mexico. We will take a team of 20 or more persons to build (2) 12’X20’ concrete block homes for the homeless in the barrios. We will take skilled & unskilled workers, translators, and cooks.
First United Methodist Church plans a fall mini-medical mission to Rio Bravo, Mexico. We will take physicians, nurses, dentists, dental assistants & hygienists, optometrists, pharmacists, translators, and helpers.
FUMC plans to conduct an annual construction mission to the Gulf Coast. Both skilled & unskilled workers will be needed to rebuild churches or homes in the aftermath of the hurricane season.
The Ardmore District of the United Methodist Church has formed a Disaster Early Response Team to respond to disasters—hail storms, ice storms, tornados, & hurricanes—in our state and in neighboring states. These team members, who have all received DERT training, go out for a weekend or for a week-long stay to make properties “safe, secure, and sanitary.”
A Work Day is scheduled each spring in Ardmore for children, youth, and adults during our annual Mission Festival. A variety clean-up, fix-up and painting projects are usually planned the day.
In the recent past mission teams have traveled to Kenya, Guatemala, Mexico (Mexico City), Texas (Houston, Waco & El Paso), Oklahoma (Lawton), and Colorado (Denver). Additional missions will be considered each year.
